Gladioli

The gladiolus is a flower with presence: a tall straight stem and a spike that opens from the bottom up over several days. A gladioli bouquet looks formal and reads well even across a crowded hall, which is why it is traditionally carried to teachers, colleagues and official occasions.

At the Valeriia Flowers studio in Chișinău we make mono bouquets of 3, 5, 7 and 9 gladioli, and pair them with chrysanthemum and greenery when a softer volume is wanted. The core colours are white, cream, pink, raspberry and bicolour varieties with a contrasting throat.

Why gladioli are chosen for the first day of school

They are the most practical choice for a school bouquet: gladioli hold their shape in the heat, do not shed on the way and leave no pollen marks on clothes. Unlike more delicate flowers they take the journey and a few hours out of water in their stride, then keep opening buds at home — the bouquet lives on for another week after the celebration.

Making the bouquet last

Cut the stems at an angle and use a tall vase — water to about a third of the height is enough. The upper buds open faster if you pinch out the topmost green one. Change the water every other day and gently remove spent flowers from the bottom so the spike keeps looking fresh.

We take orders around the clock and deliver across Chișinău within 1–2 hours. Before dispatch the florist sends a photo of the finished bouquet. For the first of September we recommend ordering ahead: demand for gladioli peaks in the last two days of August.
